rainy day
so it's raining here...not like that's a surprise, there's been nothingbut rain going on down in florida, so i guess we're due.
i've been up since 6 or 630 since i let the dogs out. listening to the
local npr station, wshu. car talk is on now.
i've been all over the map musically lately. a friend of mine at work
turned me on to this website www.mp3search.ru. it''s a russian,
supposedly, mp3 download site where the songs are 5 or 10 cents each
as opposed to a dollar with itunes.
(my greyhound, yahoo, is freaking out with all the rain and thunder and wind. cool dog, big pussy)
anyway....so they used to take paypal which i used because i was a
little weary about shooting my cc info to russia over the web. so i
ended up with 53 buck worth of credits, you have to pay first, and i
downloaded like 60 albums or something insane like that. (amazingly
enough, i still have nothing to listen to) good stuff too, good
quality. i picked up all kinds of stuff from black label society to
bela fleck. some of it was stuff i had already thats either missing or
sold and alot of it was stuff i wanted to try but unlike when i had
nothing but disposable income didn't want to pay near 20 bucks for.
i picked up jonatha brooke's 10 cent wings on itunes this morning and
am debating about wether or not go get jonatha's live disc. i also
highly recommend the john mayer as/is series on i tunes. it's a group
of four recordings taken from his last/current tour. all raw, what you
hear is what you get stuff. there's some very cool performances and
some new tunes too.
went to canada since the last post. the wife and i went up to buffalo
to visit her family. stayed at a really cool b&b called the asa ransom
house. we stayed in the room with the exposed brick wall and it was
really great...just incase you go look. we hung out with her cousin
and his family. we all went up to niagara falls and the outlet malls
(i know big fun on the outlet malls for me). it was nice though to be
with family...at least until i opened my big mouth on the ride back.
all i have to say is that if you long for peace and tranquility, never argue with two born-again types about homosexuality...you'll loose, your wife will make you apologize and you will get a reputation as having a mean streak. other than that it was great. we went over the rainbow bridge to canada, where i promptly forgot where i was from when asked by the border guard....nice.
we ended up taking advantage of the exchange rate and stayed at the
niagara fallsview casino and resort. really swanky place. the room we
got had a falls view and the most amazing bathroom i've ever seen...and
i'm a guy and it was an amazing bathroom. spa tub, glass enclosed
shower...really impressive. we lost some canadian cash in the casino,
walked the strip...did the tourist thing. the exchange rate was around
1 dollar us to 1.25 canadian, but taxes really make up the difference.
holy shit they have a double digit tax percentage...but they also have
universal health care...it's a trade off.
the people were very nice and the food was great. i recommend the
buffet at the casino...the food was actually good, not the usual buffet
slop. we also hit the new italian place that opened up downstairs
which was excellent as was the desert in the famous.
we made the obligatory stop at the duty free shop before heading home.
i picked up my case of molson xxx and crown royal limited edition fifth
which i was told i couldn't get in the states...that's bullshit as far
as the beer goes, i saw it in the liquor store down the street when we
got home...oh well, still it is 7.3 % alcohol by volume. the lady who
waited on us was kind of pissy, so my guess was that she was either
tired of dealing with stupid americans who can, as pointed out above,
can buy this shit at home, or...she was an american. that's just my
guess though.
speaking of canada. jay mohr has a great bit about canada and farms
that they play on xm radio 150 every once and a while...really funny
stuf.
i wasn't sold at first, but i do dig the xm radio. at least the comedy
channel. that's kind of where the dial stays in my saturn (it came
with the car). i now love a bunch of comics i would have never heard
of otherwise. cathleen matigan rocks.
so i fucking babble, so what.
oh yeah, we stopped at the anchor bar...the original home of the
buffalo wing. that's right, they sacrificed the first chicken in what
would become a long line chickens in the the buffalo wing genocide that
has swept the world. it's poultry clensing i tell you.
ok enough babble. i started this wanting to be deep and i've been as
shallow as possible...oh well, there's always tomorrow.
